Mongo River Run has been owned and operated by the Scalzo family for 17 years! We are Mongo-raised and have a lifetime of experience and memories on the Pigeon River. Each love and respect the river, people, and town and have great knowledge of the river's unique history.

The Pigeon River History

Mongo was founded in year 1832.

The history of word Mongoquinong comes from the Miami and Pottawatomi Indians who settled in Mongo. Tribes used the Pigeon river as their main source of travel.

Today, we honor the history of the Pigeon river and tribes by being good stewards of the Pigeon river.

Select your float, kayaks or canoes

Select your ideal float from comfortable canoes or 3-styles of kayaks depending on your weight/experience: 'sit on top' kayaks, 'sit inside' kayaks, and 'Vapor' kayaks for XL weight.

Sit On Top

A 'sit on top' kayak is the most popular option and includes a small place for storage in the back. The weight limit is 280 lbs.

Sit Inside

A 'sit inside' kayak, has much less leg room, so if you are a bigger or taller person, this not the kayak you would want to use. The weight limit is 280 lbs.

Vapor, Open Sit In

We have a select few XL "Vapor" kayaks that are a more 'open sit in', with a higher weight limit. The weight limit is 320 lbs.

All of our canoes have comfortable built-in backrest and one child (child at least 2 years of age) under 70-lbs can sit in the middle (floor) of the canoe at no additional cost.

When you call to reserve your float, you can choose a canoe or either style of kayak, but keep in mind that our 'sit on top' kayaks sell out quickly! We hand wash all of the life jackets and boats after every trip.
